Qaida & Nazirah

A Legacy of Devotion

Department of Qaida & Nazirah

Iqra Raudat-ul-Atfal has a dedicated Department of Qaida and Nazirah, which forms the foundation of Qur’anic education for young learners. Traditionally, Muslim children in the Indo-Pak subcontinent have begun their religious education with a Qaida—whether Baghdadi Qaida, Yassarnal-Qur’an, Noorani Qaida, or others. Despite their variety, all Qaidas share a common goal: to familiarize children with Arabic letters, enable them to recognize vowels (ḥarakāt, sukūn, etc.), combine letters correctly, and gradually develop fluency in reading the Holy Qur’an by sight (Nazirah).

Correct pronunciation according to Tajweed is essential at every stage. However, in the past, Qaida and Nazirah instruction was often delivered without proper awareness of Tajweed. May Allah shower His countless blessings upon Hazrat Qari Noor Muhammad Ludhianvi (هللا رحمه(, the compiler of Noorani Qaida, and Hazrat Qari Fatah Muhammad (هللا رحمه(, who emphasized Tajweed and provided exemplary guidance in teaching methodology. Following this noble tradition, Iqra Qaida is another valuable contribution to the service of the Qur’an.

A Legacy of Devotion

Development of Iqra Qaida

With the grace of Allah, formal teacher-training courses are now conducted to ensure effective and correct Qaida instruction. In the early years of Iqra Raudat-ul-Atfal, a single Qaida was used; however, it was soon realized that this department also required renewal and improvement. Consequently, after extensive effort and careful planning, Iqra Qaida was developed.

Keeping the principle of gradual learning in mind, the Qaida has been organized into 20 structured lesson boards, where each lesson introduces only one new concept at a time. Every letter, word, and lesson strictly observes the rules of Tajweed. After continuous review, revision, and refinement, Iqra Qaida has been implemented as a complete and effective curriculum. Today, not only Iqra institutions but many other educational organizations also benefit from it.

To enhance its effectiveness, a formal teaching methodology has been designed. Specific teaching hours and duration are fixed, teachers are trained for collective classroom instruction, and supporting audio materials have been developed. Alongside regular training programs, refresher courses are also conducted for teachers to maintain and improve instructional quality.

Our Objectives

Objectives of Qaida Instruction

Through Qaida instruction, children are enabled to:

Recognize Arabic letters

Understand vowels and diacritical marks

Combine letters correctly

Read fluently with proper pronunciation

At every stage—whether spelling, fluent reading, or stopping—Tajweed rules are strictly observed. This prepares the child to read the Holy Qur’an smoothly by sight (Nazirah), which serves as the foundation for memorization (Hifz). Experience shows that a strong Qaida leads to better Nazirah, and strong Nazirah makes Hifz easier and more effective.

Islamic Studies (Islamiyat)

Alongside Qaida instruction, students are taught basic Islamic beliefs, selected Kalimas, Masnoon Duas, and essential Islamic manners and ethics related to daily life. This curriculum is systematically prepared and is available in an attractively printed book titled “Islamiyat.”

Iqra Khush-Khatti (Handwriting)

The Qaida program spans one academic year, during which students study Qaida, Islamiyat, and Khush-Khatti (Islamic handwriting).
Iqra Khush-Khatti is based on the same letters and words taught in the Qaida. Each written exercise corresponds to the Qaida lesson being learned, enabling students to reinforce their reading through writing. This approach:

  • Improves memory and understanding
  • Develops neat handwriting and copying skills
  • Enhances writing quality
  • Prevents boredom through varied learning activities

Ultimate Goal

The fundamental objective of the Qaida Department is to prepare children for Hifz-ul-Qur’an, which is the foremost mission of Iqra. All curricula, training, and efforts are dedicated to achieving this noble goal.

May Allah grant success and acceptance. Ameen.
